The con starts at 9.00am on the Friday. Gaming lasts throughout the day and much of the night - some reprobates can usually be found still playing games at four in the morning. Officially the con ends at 6.00pm on the Sunday but provided the hotel does not need the gaming room for Monday then people are usually allowed to carry on playing.
We are still negotiating with the hotel but prices are unlikely to be much different - if at all - from last year, when they were: £25-£30 for the whole weekend, depending on whether you book before late October (day rates of £15 for each of Friday and Saturday, £10 for Sunday). Accommodation is available in the Hallmark Hotel or its sister establishment, the Hallmark Inn, at reasonable rates.
Refer to the hotel web site: https://www.hallmarkhotels.co.uk/hotels/hallmark-hotel-derby-midland/ The hotel has lifts and ramps. Wheelchair users may find it tricky to navigate the main gaming room as the floor is usually festooned with bags stuffed full of games but the MidCon committee will be happy to clear a path.
MidCon 39 is the 40th games convention to take place under the name (it's a long story). It takes place in the Hallmark Hotel Derby Midland (right opposite the BR station). It is taking place a week (or two) earlier than usual owing to Rolls-Royce booking the hotel for a massive game of pass the parcel, but otherwise it will contain all the usual fun & games: around 260 board gamers; a games stall; our own private real ale bar (in addition to the hotel's regular bar); a bring & buy second-hand games sale; a quiz plus much more. You do not have to be resident in the hotel to attend the convention.
