While many still await the news concerning a new Mass Effect video game, we previously reported that you wouldn’t have to wait too long for a slightly different interactive experience featuring this beloved franchise.

Pre-order Mass Effect

Mass Effect: The Board Game - Project: Hagalaz is now available to pre-order and the developer, Modiphius, has given a much more in-depth analysis of what players should expect from the game!

For those who have already seen enough from the title and are keen to get their pre-order in their basket without any further details due to the strength of the intellectual property alone, then they can do so right now by heading to the official Modiphius website

Fans will find that the standard, base board game will set them back £40. Inside the gorgeously-designed box they’ll find a rulebook, player tokens, cards, character sheets, a selection of dice and even six stunningly crafted minis representing the key characters from the narrative.

But, there will be those who want to fully immerse themselves within this tabletop experience and will prefer to go all-in. Well there’s a £240 option available to those searching for the ultimate miniatures bundle. The website describes the minis as “forty-eight 32mm scale multipart, high-quality resin miniatures with plastic bases.”

However, there are alternative sets available that have been curated to represent specific characters and themes. The Collector’s Bundle sits at £136 for example, while limited 6-figure products like Heroes of the Normandy Alpha, Reaper Forces Alpha and Cerberus Troops Alpha, average around the £40 mark. Plus, there are 3-figure options such as the Priority Threats Beta set that retail for £28. Ultimately, there’s really no limit to how fans may want to place their preorder.

It’s worth noting that all minis arrive without paint, meaning if players want to have authentically decorated characters on their board, they will have to break out the brushes.

The Trailer

Modiphius have confirmed that Mass Effect: The Board Game is set during the events of Mass Effect 3. As part of the pre-order launch, prospective players can get a greater sense of the narrative from a cinematic trailer the developers have put together.

With the calendar marked as 2186, and players sent to the world of Hagalaz where a Cerberus research cruiser has crashed, Shepard aims to gain the secrets of the ship and keep its knowledge from getting into enemy hands.

The trailer also provides a useful insight into how gameplay might function, with miniatures moving across the board, capturing specific checkpoints, and completing objectives as a wide range of tokens keep track of the action.

Players will also get a rundown of the characters involved in the mission, with Liara, Garrus, Tali, and Wrex each receiving a card and miniature, and the tease of the enemies that may soon pose a problem.

Mass Effect Board Game Release Date

Those who were intrigued by the title were previously told that Modiphius were eying up a late-2024 release date and there was some coverage from platforms indicating that the title would launch in October. But we can now confirm that Mass Effect: The Board Game will be looking for a global launch on the 7th of November, 2024. This has been carefully picked to line up with Mass Effect day!

Although the 1-4 player cooperative title has not been confirmed to be part of a larger series, it is plausible that the performance of Project: Hagalaz may impact the future of this franchise in tabletop.
