Next year marks the launch of an unexpected title, which takes its inspiration from a rich and vibrant culture. It is called Ofrenda, and the colourful concept looks unlike anything we’ve seen before.

The holiday season is upon us, which means studios are developing titles to release for the festive season, while also gearing up for a new run of knockouts in 2025. One studio has begun to put together an impressive slate, which has just got a little bigger – with Ofrenda
Osprey Games
In the case of Ofrenda, fans should know that the title is in safe hands, coming from the firmly established Osprey Games. Also known for its quality publishing division, Osprey Games has a solid track record, with titles like Imperium: Horizons, The Silver Bayonet, FREAKZ, and Tomorrow City showcasing the sheer range of the developers, from imaginative RPGs, to tabletop war titles.
Ofrenda Designers
With the Osprey Games machine behind it, Ofrenda comes to us from a talented group of designers. André Santos and Orlando Sá are the leads on the project, with the duo having previously worked on Paper Roll & Write and Neotopia together. With the experienced partnership in place putting together the concept and mechanics, the game simply needs a talented artist to back it up.
Alex Herrerías will be serving as an illustrator on the project. Hailing from Mexico, Herrerías’ striking, stylised and authentic take on Ofrenda will ensure that the cards and characters are brought to life in stunning detail.
The Day Of The Dead Board Game Inspiration
The concept for the game is given away in its name, but Ofrenda is inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos. The title defines an Ofrenda as “a bright, inviting altar to remember those who have passed away.” And it seems that players may be creating one of their own, to honour lost loved ones.
Play Ofrenda
Osprey Games has said that players will “Gather the portraits of your family members, place candles and marigolds to guide their spirits, and make offerings of the things they loved in life.” The narrative premise should be very familiar to those who know about the important event,
Mechanically, the title is intended for one to four players, and will take around 60 minutes to complete. It is designed for ages 14 and over, and should be a perfect experience for older families. While we don’t currently know how much the game will cost, we do know that Ofrienda will work with a card placement system. The game itself includes 4 player boards, 80 playing cards, 30+ wooden pieces, 40+ tokens, and a rulebook, giving a sense of how this may mechanically come together.
When will Ofrenda Release?
While we are currently expecting previews of the title to be shown at the 2025 Game Expo, fans will have to wait to get their hands on the title. It is set to release on the 10th of July, 2025, just before the Day of the Dead comes around again.
We’ll keep you up to date with all the latest news surrounding Ofrienda and some of the other projects Osprey Games have announced for 2025 and beyond!
