Tweets iconic ‘Please Stand By’ screen from post-apocalyptic video game series
It looks like Fallout: Wasteland Warfare won’t be the only adaptation of the post-apocalyptic RPG video game series coming to the tabletop.
Fantasy Flight has teased a new Fallout board game via its Twitter account, tweeting out the iconic ‘Please Stand By’ image used as a loading screen in several of the video games.
If there was any room for misunderstanding, the publisher also included the Twitter usernames of both Fallout developer Bethesda and the official account for the game in the tweet, but hasn’t given any more information.
Although there's no details on what type of game we can expect, it seems unlikely that it'll be a miniatures wargame – given that Modiphius already has that covered with its take on the series.
Of course, Fantasy Flight has previously adapted video games including Doom, Sid Meier's Civilization, The Witcher and XCOM into board and card games, potentially hinting at its similar treatment of Fallout.
With the timing of massive US gaming show Gen Con next week, it seems likely that Fantasy Flight's new game will be shown off there, but how much of it we might see – and how far along in development it currently is – remains unclear.
Interestingly, the dark green hue and style of the teaser screen is most reminiscent of 2008 entry Fallout 3, rather than the latest instalment, 2015’s Fallout 4 – although this probably means the game will be based on the long-running series as a whole, rather than just focusing on a single title.
We’ll hopefully find out what Fantasy Flight has in store soon. Would it be too much to ask for a tabletop RPG set in the Fallout world, too?
