Last new entry was Fantasy Flight's 2008 revised fourth edition
Here’s a piece of short and sweet news to brighten your day: Games Workshop has announced plans to revive Talisman for the tabletop.
The adventure board – which technically has the subtitle ‘The Magical Quest Game’ – first appeared more than three decades ago in 1983 and was last revamped for the revised fourth edition in 2008 by Fantasy Flight.
With the recent breakup of Fantasy Flight and Games Workshop after close to a decade of working together (February 28th will actually mark the official end of the relationship), the future of the studio’s board games was left up in the air.
However, it looks like all is not lost, as Games Workshop released a very brief but reassuring statement on its community site confirming that Talisman would be brought back.
Here’s the announcement in its entirety:
“Talisman’s back!
Lots of good news for fans of the Talisman board game today.
We are delighted to announce that this classic and much loved game will be returning soon. At the moment, we don’t have any more info on the release date, but we’ll let you know as and when we learn more.
So stay tuned.”
Told you it was brief.
Although the revised fourth edition has spent close to a decade in and out of print, Talisman has continued to live on in the digital world, with Nomad Games releasing Talisman: Digital Edition on PC and PS4 – the latter arriving this spring. A spin-off, Talisman: Prologue, also appeared in 2012 before making the jump to mobile the following year.
Speaking of which, the digital version of Talisman was recently updated with the Firelands expansion – so at least you’ll have something to tide you over in the meantime.
