No butler in the fridge, no buy
Lara Croft is venturing onto the tabletop in a new board game based on the Tomb Raider video games.
Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game is being developed by Hobby Japan and put out by Tomb Raider publisher Square Enix, and appears to be a competitive showdown between four of the shooting, swinging, treasure-hunting heroine’s incarnations from across the years, from her original PlayStation One-era polygonal persona to the grittier survivalist of the recent rebooted trilogy.
Although few details about the gameplay have been confirmed, the first pictures of the game show what seems to be a circular main board made up of modular tiles, which players will move between in a race to get to the winning tile first.
Along the way, the Laras will deal with threats and pick up injuries by selecting from a variety of actions, such as stealing cards from their rival explorers, exploring the board and gaining experience points.
Square Enix’s announcement of the game on Twitter added that it’s currently planned for a release in the first quarter of 2019, suggesting that it won’t be following the Kickstarter trend of several recent high-profile video game spin-offs.
A second piece of the puzzle was unveiled by our good friends @tombraider Tomb Raider and your response was phenomenal! We are thrilled to announce that Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game will release in Q1 2019!
