Magic: The Gathering Arena is the next digital outing for the card game

We might have the first details of the follow-up to Magic: The Gathering’s digital version Magic Duels.

Well, one detail: a name. Wizards of the Coast announced that it is currently working on Magic: The Gathering Arena as the next instalment in its ‘Magic Digital Next’ programme.

Whether or not the upcoming video game will be a replacement for Magic Duels is currently unclear, as there won’t be any more details until September 7th during a Twitch livestream. There will be a closed beta shortly after the full reveal, despite the fact no platforms have been confirmed for the game.

Magic: The Gathering Arena follows the reveal of an MMO in development from Neverwinter and City of Heroes creator Cryptic Studios, although it’s yet to get a release date.

Originally launched back in 2015, Magic Duels’ updates came to an end with Amonkhet, with Hour of Devastation and future expansions no longer coming to the app, which can still be downloaded and played.

The first game in the Magic Digital Next series is slated to launch sometime in 2017 – will that be Magic: The Gathering Arena? We should find out soon.
