Vital Lacerda, the designer of long-time economic strategy games Vinhos and The Gallerist, has announced his latest project.

Lisboa (the former name of Portugal’s capital Lisbon) is set after the November 1755 earthquake, tsunami and subsequent three days of fires that devastated the city and nearly completely obliterated its buildings.

Inspired by the Marquis of Pombal, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, who helped rebuild the city, players take on the role of Portuguese nobles who utilise their influence and ties to the royal builder to construct new buildings and restart the city’s trading business.

Ultimately, players are looking to earn wigs, which contribute to the final scoring.

The big box title looks to be as deep and thematically rich as Lacerda’s previous games, and has been illustrated gorgeously by Vinhos and Gallerist artist Ian O’Toole.

The RRP for the game is estimated to be $100 when it’s released next June, but a cheaper copy including the campaign’s stretch goals can be picked up through the Kickstarter campaign for $79 – plus $33 shipping to the UK, for a total of $112.

The campaign runs until December 16th and has already more than tripled its initial $50,000 goal by raising over $161,000 at the time of writing.
