Creators recently launched RPG powered by storytelling dice

Rory’s Story Cubes, the kid-friendly game of creating stories by rolling dice, have been acquired by tabletop behemoth Asmodee.

Asmodee – the mega-label owner of games including Pandemic, Catan, Ticket to Ride and Dobble, as well as the parent firm of publishers from Z-Man and Fantasy Flight to Plaid Hat and Days of Wonder – has been distributing Story Cubes in European countries since 2013, but will now take full control of the game worldwide.

Story Cubes, co-created by namesake Rory O’ Connor, were originally published by The Creativity Hub in 2008 and have since expanded into a variety of spin-off expansions and packs, including themed sets based on Doctor Who, Batman, Adventure Time and Scooby-Doo.

The Creativity Hub unveiled a roleplaying game powered by the dice earlier this month titled Untold: Adventures Await, which has since passed its Kickstarter target ahead of a full release this October.

According to an announcement from Asmodee accompanied by a cute summary of the news in Story Cube form, O’Connor and co-creator Anita Murphy will work with the publisher to further develop Story Cubes over the coming few years.

“We are so proud of Rory’s Story Cubes, the playful way it brings people together, and how it turns anyone who plays into a storyteller,” said O’Connor and Murphy. “We firmly believe that, as the creators, we have only scratched the surface in terms of its potential impact, as a game and educational resource.”
