First Space Marine Adventures game coming later this year

Praise the Emperor, Warhammer 40,000 is getting a new board game.

Space Marine Adventures: Labyrinth of the Necrons is a co-op game for between two and five people, BoardGameGeek reports from New York’s Toy Fair.

It’s the first such game to be branded with the Space Marine Adventures title, suggesting that there might be more entries in the series on the way – but that remains to be seen.

What we can see for now is that Labyrinth of the Necrons comes with five Space Marine models, handily colour-coded to represent the Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, Salamanders, Space Wolves and Ultramarines.

Intriguingly, the sculpts appear to be the same as five of the Space Marines previously exclusive to Japan, and each comes with a character card with their stats and abilities.

As you might have guessed from the name, there will also be a bunch of Necron figures facing them – including warriors, immortals, lychguards and an overlord – with a map tile suggesting that the game will potentially be a dungeon-crawler experience driven by cards and dice. (There’s also what appears to be a drawstring bag, but we can’t tell what it’s used for.)

The first images of the game show off a few packs of cards marked with ‘Do Not Open’, with another inviting players to ‘Open Now’. Could a campaign mode with gradually unlockable gameplay elements be in store?

We’ll find out later this year, when Labyrinth of the Necrons is due for release.
