Star Wars, Hamilton, Frozen and Guardians of the Galaxy actors played an all-star version of Werewolf together

Movie stars may seem like they live in a different world to the rest of us, but it turns out that even Hollywood’s biggest names enjoy playing games just as much as everyone else.

Entertainment Weekly discovered that the star-studded cast of this year’s Murder on the Orient Express played social deduction classic Werewolf together every Friday night while filming the Agatha Christie adaptation in London.

According to Frozen and Book of Mormon actor Josh Gad, the cast was first introduced to the game by Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem – a sentence we never thought we’d write. Cruz revealed that she plays on a regular basis with not just one, but two different gaming groups in Los Angeles and Madrid.

Joining Gad, Cruz and Bardem was Daisy Ridley – who came to fame as Rey in the latest Star Wars trilogy – Tony Award-winning actor and singer Leslie Odom Jr., known for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in the insanely popular stage musical Hamilton; Peep Show and Broadchurch’s Olivia Colman; and the incredibly prolific Michelle Pfeiffer, recognisable from everything from Batman Returns’ Catwoman to Dangerous Liasons, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

Perhaps the most surprising member of the group was venerated actor Willem Dafoe, who apparently played every week and stayed from the very beginning to the very end, Odom Jr. said.

If it wasn’t already the most impressive Werewolf group in history, the actors occasionally had some of their Hollywood pals drop by and join in, including Guardians of the Galaxy and The Lego Movie star Chris Pratt; Jurassic World and Twilight actor Bryce Dallas Howard; and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek and Super 8 director JJ Abrams.

If you’re wondering how a game dependant on acting your role went down with some of the most talented performers working on screen today, the answer is ‘about as well as you’d expect’.  Gad highlighted Cruz and Odom Jr. as the best bluffers in the roster, while Odom Jr. said Dafoe was a “master” and it seems even Ridley had to admit she was the worst liar in the pack.

Of course, the stars aren’t the first members of the Hollywood elite to admit their love for gaming. From Vin Diesel’s obsession with Dungeons & Dragons to Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard skipping Golden Globe Awards parties to play Settlers of Catan, it seems that Tinseltown is fast becoming Tabletoptown.

Maybe it’s little surprise a film adaptation of Catan is already in the works – and it seems there’ll no shortage of A-list fans lining up for a part.
