Warlord Games gains licence for Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper and Strontium Dog comic 2000 AD

Bolt Action, Hail Caesar and Beyond the Gates of Antares miniatures firm Warlord Games has been granted the licence to create titles based on iconic British sci-fi comic book 2000 AD.

2000 AD first appeared in the late ‘70s and became known as the home of popular characters such as Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper and Strontium Dog, created and written by major names in comics including Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Steve Dillon, Dave Gibbons, Mark Millar and Brian Bolland. It continues to be published nearly 40 years on.

Warlord was previously responsible for distributing the existing Judge Dredd Miniatures Game published by Mongoose.

One of the titles confirmed to be in early development is a game based on space western series Strontium Dog, which is set in a post-apocalyptic galaxy where humans have mutated following a nuclear war on Earth. The strip is known for its superpowered bounty hunter hero Johnny Alpha – fans of Spaced may recognise the name from a gag referencing the comic in the TV show.

 “Many of us at Warlord are ardent 2000 AD fans so the chance to take on a licence to work with the stories we grew up with and continue to avidly enjoy was something of a dream come true,” added Warlord’s head of product design Paul Sawyer.

“We have many ideas to bring the wonderful stories from our favourite strips – old and new – to the tabletop and work had begun in earnest to do justice (pun intended) to Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Flesh, Slaine, Kingdom and many of their sister strips.”
