Odin see that coming

A Feast for Odin, the epic Viking saga from Agricola and Caverna creator Uwe Rosenberg, is returning for a second course.

The first big-box expansion (a mini-expansion with three new lands was released last year) for the worker-placing, tile-organising triumph is The Norwegians, serving up a healthy plate of extra tiles, boards and gameplay options for players’ Norse villagers to chow down on.

One of the biggest additions in the box is three double-sided action boards that add extra spaces and a fifth column to expand the range of tasks that workers can perform, from elk hunting and fishing to butchering and thieving.

The additional actions tie in with new ‘personal artisan shed’ buildings to diversify the ways in which players can gather victory points, ranging from a pig sty used to generate meat for the feast to the increased weaponry options of the armoury. Almost 100 extra goods tiles – such as horses, which can be bred – and six special tiles new to the expansion inflate the pool of items and food in the game.

The Norwegians also grows the geography that players can explore, introducing four brand new exploration boards to settle and updated boards for the original game’s lands that make tweaks in line with the expansion’s new rules and gameplay. On one side of the double-sided boards you’ll find the Isle of Man, Isle of Skye, Islay and the Outer Hebrides, while the reverse focuses on Irish coastal locations at Waterford, Wexford, Cork and Limerick.

There are also suggested different ways to play A Feast for Odin, such as a randomised starting building, and the option to discard your profession for victory points.

As with the impressive historical grounding of the original game, The Norwegians once again comes with an almanac relating the expansion’s gameplay elements to the real-life history of the Vikings.

A Feast for Odin: The Norwegians will be out later this year, with a US price pegged at $40 (£30).
