The ever popular MicroMacro game is getting a more child friendly variant, making it a perfect game for the whole family to play.
MicroMacro has been a popular game since its launch, winning awards for its innovation and fun, and offering a mixture of Where's Wally and whodunnit. In this Spiel des Jahres winning game, players are presented with huge black-and-white cartoon scenes, with intricate stories being told within them, which it is your responsibility to figure out –hopefully correctly! – what happened, based on the trail you follow. Whilst it's not explicitly impossible for children to play it, the themes of crime perhaps prevented parents from bringing it to the table. All that can now change, with Edition Spielwiese and Hachette Boardgames confirming the launch of MicroMacro Kids.

The new variation of the game offers some more light-hearted mysteries to unravel than its foundational counterpart. Children ages 6+ will be searching for lost dogs in the park, finding carrots for fluffy bunnies, uncovering a diamond thief, locating a dinosaur bone or locating missing hats. There are actually 22 different cases of increasing difficulty, plus another 44 additional 'search and find' mini tasks. The game is noted to take 15-45 minutes (although we'd say based on our experiences with MicroMacro, mileage may vary, depending on how quickly you pick it up, especially as the early illustrations look like they'll be just as detailed), and is best played between 1-4 players.
Michael Schmitt, founder of Edition Spielwiese, said: "MicroMacro was never intended as a children's game, but we recognised its appeal to younger players. Now, with the help of a freelance editor who was responsible for Children's Game of the Year at Ravensburger, we've created a game just as thrilling as the Crime City series.”
Rob Trounce, Marketing Manager of Hachette Boardgames UK, said: “I’ve spent countless hours poring over MicroMacro maps — they’re some of the most innovative, narratively rich tabletop games out there. I’m thrilled to share that magic with a new generation through MicroMacro Kids.”

The game itself will be showcased first at London and New York Toy Fairs, plus Spielwarenmesse in Nuremberg, which means we'll get an idea of how it'll look ahead of its April 2025 release. It will cost £29 when released, and we're excited to discover what's in store...
