I’m paladin Riiiiiiiick!

The anarchic humour of animated TV show Rick and Morty will collide with the fantasy roleplaying of Dungeons & Dragons’ fifth edition later this year, as a new box set and adventure based on the Adult Swim series comes to the tabletop RPG.

In news sure to please fans of conjunctions and convoluted naming, Dungeons & Dragons vs. Rick and Morty: Tabletop Roleplaying Game Adventure will serve as a beginner-friendly starter set for D&D: Fifth Edition, containing the materials needed to take a group of up to five players from levels one to three in the roleplaying game. The set will also include an adventure set in the world of Rick and Morty.

The box set isn’t the first time that Rick and Morty and Dungeons & Dragons have crossed over; the two met in a comic book of the same name written by The Name of the Wind author Patrick Rothfuss and released last summer that revolved around Rick and Morty finding themselves sucked into a D&D campaign. A second Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons comic, Painscape, has since been announced for release in April 2020.

The Rick and Morty set also isn’t the first time that D&D has taken advantage of a hit TV show to bring newcomers to the RPG. A retro-styled Stranger Things starter set, featuring the adventure played by the characters of the ‘80s-themed Netflix show and a miniature of the Demogorgon, was revealed earlier this year.

Dungeons & Dragons vs. Rick and Morty: Tabletop Roleplaying Game Adventure is planned for release on November 29th in the US, where it will cost $30 (£24). A UK date and price is yet to be confirmed.
