Rounds include World War I scenario and contest-winning adventure
Cthulhu Masters, the tournament based on Lovecraftian RPG Call of Cthulhu, is making a return to this year’s UK Games Expo.
The competitive roleplaying experience will involve seven tables of players playing on the Friday of the Birmingham show between 3pm and 7pm, hoping to score one of the 12 places available in the invite-only Saturday final.
If you’re wondering how an RPG becomes competitive, players are judged on their improvisation, acting and gameplay.
The first rounds on Friday will feature a scenario set during World War I battle of Verdun, with players attempting to locate a missing soldier and discover the reason for his disappearance – otherworldly or not.
The second round on Saturday, which kicks off at 8pm, will be based on one of the winning adventures of the Cult of Chaos scenario contest, decided by the volunteer game masters group. All of the games will feature the seventh edition of Call of Cthulhu.
First-round winners will get a certificate to prove their achievement, while the overall victor will get a trophy and publisher Chaosium’s next release.
Anyone can sign up to take part, with entry costing £4 for one of the initial 48 places.
