Card Against Humanity’s Case
Cards Against Humanity, which is both the name of the card game and the company itself, is suing Elon Musk for reportedly using their land without permission. The group is suing SpaceX for the sum of $15 million for trespassing on their property, after Musk’s organisation allegedly used the space to store their building materials for a major project.
The official website for Cards Against Humanity stated:
“How did this happen? Elon Musk’s SpaceX was building some space thing nearby, and he figured he could just dump his s*** all over our gorgeous plot of land without asking. After we caught him, SpaceX gave us a 12-hour ultimatum to accept a lowball offer for less than half our land’s value.”
The Claim
The allegation is a result of a previous attention-grabbing headline – Cards Against Humanity originally purchased the space to defy Donald Trump around seven years ago. To do so, 150,000 people each paid $15 to help buy the land, to prevent the President from building the policy-based wall between the border of Mexico and the United States.
At the time, this campaign was considered to be a success and was a major factor in thwarting Trump’s attempts at completing the project. Those who contributed to the process were given an official certificate that guaranteed that the law would be upheld, no matter what the US government attempted to do. While Cards Against Humanity didn’t need to go to court at the time, things have now changed drastically.
The Next Steps
While Cards Against Humanity’s charitable acts will continue, their drive to ensure they get compensation from Elon Musk will likely run in the background for some time. There are suggestions that Musk may settle out of court, to make this process as simple as possible, but with the tabletop card experience aiming to pay each of those 150,000 original contributors up to a whopping $100 each, it seems that this could turn into a complex conflict.
We will keep you up to date with proceedings as this case gets going but Cards Against Humanity might have offered an easy solution stating, “P.S. We will also accept Twitter.com as compensation.” Nonetheless, Musk is yet to respond publicly to these accusations and it is unclear how SpaceX will seek to counter the claims.
In the meantime, you can support Cards Against Humanity by purchasing their original starter pack and numerous expansions, or splash out on some new themed packs that celebrate topics like Pride, Pop Culture and Science.
