When Is Catan’s 30th Anniversary?
Catan’s 30th anniversary is being celebrated on the 28th of June, 2025, where Asmodee and partnering publishing companies come together to highlight the title and its many years of entertainment that it has provided players with. Catan was originally published in Germany in 1995, by the company known as Franckh-Kosmos Verlag. While the title has evolved since those early days, the core components have remained largely the same.
Today, over 40 million copies of Catan have been sold worldwide, and new players seem to discover this unique tabletop experience every day. While there are expansions to explore, and variants to engage with, the core Catan still proves to be the most popular. And so, as part of the 30th anniversary, Catan will be at the centre of a very special event titled Catan Connect, which will play out simultaneously, all over the world.
What Is Catan Connect?
Catan Connect is designed to be a hands-on experience, with over 35 countries taking part! Catan Connect events will be organised, where players can attend in-person, and play the game alongside other fans. This is a great way for newcomers to try out the title for the first time, or for veterans to test their skills against other experts in a new format.
But, what’s more, all Catan Connect events will be livestreamed locally, meaning players will be connected beyond the community sitting right in front of them. This is a day that aims to demonstrate just how popular the game is, while showcasing that players are never alone with their hobby.
Catan Connect isn’t just an event though. It’s also a type of game; a completely different format for Catan that involves a longer board, a brand new ruleset, and an ambitious premise which involves interacting with everyone at the same time! The Catan Connect rules are currently available online right now, so players should get to grips with the changes before attending the event.
The event will be hosted by Ross Gilbert, Tabletop Gaming Magazine writer known for PTCGRadio on YouTube, who had this to say:
"Catan is one of those game that everyone has played. As they should, because it's amazing and an absolute classic! Now there's a chance to play this not just with your friends around your kitchen table but with people in 35 countries Worldwide! I cannot fit that many people in my kitchen so how could I not jump at the chance to be involved in this. The only real question is: do you go for a balanced strategy or just horde sheep and worry about everything else later?"
How Can I Get Involved With Catan Connect?
In the UK, there are two Catan Connect events taking place, both in London and Sheffield. While the former will be held in the Kia Oval Stadium, the latter will be hosted by Patriot Games. For more information on how to take part, visit the official websites, where tickets are available to purchase now. The average price of entry is £10.
Those who are unable to attend the events in person can still get involved by checking out the streams. Just head over to any official Catan channels to take part, with each stream separated by location. That way, even those following along at home can feel as if they are part of the community, as fans are brought closer together.
You also have the opportunity to win a huge bundle of goodies at the event.
