CMON have brought us some huge games to tabletop previously from the world of video gaming, not least that of God of War, a game heralded in its own media as game of the year.
It recently brought us the rather epic news that another game of the year title would be receiving the tabletop treatment, in The Last of Us.
The Last of Us is a hugely popular Playstation 3, 4, and soon to be 5 game, set in a world where a virus has caused the infected to mutate into zombie-like creatures. The protagonist, Joel, loses his family in the initial outbreak, and in what emerges as the post-apocalyptic society, is tasked with escorting a young girl who may hold the cure to the virus to the research facility. Of course, it's never that simple, and the story is both brutal (as zombie-esque games should be), full of difficult decisions, and ultimately heart-wrenching. Now with an equally emotional and gritty sequel, where you're always questioning who it is you should trust, the former game is to gain the CMON treatment, so we'll anticipate some epic miniatures and some brutal gameplay.
“Remembering the impact The Last of Us had on me when I first experienced it years ago, and then being completely stunned by The Last of Us Part II, I knew this was a narrative experience we wanted to bring to the board gaming table,” says Geoff Skinner, VP of Entertainment and Head of Licensing at CMON. “We are honoured to have the chance to translate a modern classic of the video game industry into a unique and compelling board game experience. The Last of Us is a series that many of us at CMON have followed from its inception and we are eager to adapt the stirring character-driven player experience to tabletop, letting fans explore the world and story in an entirely new way.”
There's no date as yet for anticipated release, but it's exciting news nonetheless!
