Snow Tails and Shear Panic designers team up with Aardman Animations
Crackers and cheese at the ready: a new Wallace & Gromit game is planned to appear later this year.
Yes, the plasticine pair are returning to the tabletop for what seems to be the first time since 2011’s TV tie-in Rocket Race.
This time, it looks like the fromage-fond inventor and his silent canine companion will finally get their due, as Shear Panic and Snow Tails designer-publishers Gordon and Fraser Lamont – also known as Fragor Games – will be leading the development of the untitled game.
Details remain otherwise thin on the ground, although a cryptic announcement made last year before Essen suggests that the Lamonts were previously offered the chance to work with the Wallace & Gromit world all the way back in 2010 and opted not to take it any further at the time. A separate Wallace & Gromit title, Cracking Contraptions, was released that same year to tie in with the eponymous television show.
The same blog post also made reference to a ‘major licence’ that will be Kickstarted rather than released traditionally – suggesting that the Wallace & Gromit game will be headed to the crowdfunding site in the not-too-distant future.
To confirm their involvement with the beloved British stop-motion creation, the pair released a picture of them (via BGG) stood with models of Wallace, Gromit and Shaun the Sheep at Aardman Animations’ studio – and stressed that, despite the timing, it wasn’t an April Fools’ gag. It's also said to be very different from their previous releases – no Shear Panic reskin here.
Fragor Games' Wallace & Gromit game is apparently due for release later in 2017, following the Kickstarter campaign.
