By popular demand!
Dungeons and Dragons have hosted a few events over the last few months, many of which facilitated actual virtual playthroughs with players all around the world, hosted by a knowledgeable DM. These were notably successful and well enjoyed D&D Live, and the recent D&D Celebration.
To follow this, therefore, D&D Virtual Play Weekends have been confirmed! These are a monthly program to create what they're calling a "mini convention", so you'll join and engage in the same way you would have done so at previous events.
These are going to be organised by Baldman Games, and hosted by DMs, with your entry fee paying towards the DM's themselves, who are vetted by Baldman Games. These will each include the option for tabletop play, new D&D Adventurers League adventures, submission by DMs for adventures to be run outside of the Adventurers League, registration using the Yawning Portal, and organisation through Baldman Games' Discord.
There's no confirmation yet as to whether these will be run through a specific platform.
The dates to play are as follows:
- November 13th-15th, 2020
- December 11th-13th, 2020
- January 15th-17th, 2021
- February 19th-21st, 2021
- March 12th-14th, 2021
Games themselves will be two hours, or four hours long (with a longer timeslot allocated to allow for any technical difficulties or overrun), and will cost $15 for a standard 4-hour adventure, $8 for a 2-hour adventure and $4 for a learn to play adventure.
There is also the option in future for multiple adventure tickets, for which they've given the example of a potential $50 ticket to play a full trilogy with the same players and agreed times.
There's a theme for the first play, which unsurprisingly is 'Scary'. A great opportunity to lean on the horror and psychological scares of Icewind Dale, plus an opportunity to extend the fun of Halloween!
Registrations are through the Yawning Portal, which doesn't appear to be open yet, but a schedule for games can be found here.
While we wait for registrations to open, you can check out the interview we did with Chris Perkins about Icewind Dale: Rime of The Frostmaiden for Virtual Tabletop Gaming Live!
