Beginning in 2019, Free RPG Day made its triumphant return on the 21st of June, 2025, and encouraged players to engage in new and classic campaigns. Find out more about this year’s event, as the countdown begins to 2026!
What Is Free RPG Day?
Three veteran gaming retailers came together to form Gaming Days, an organisation that was designed to promote the tabletop gaming industry, with a specific desire to drive consumers towards stores. The brick-and-mortar tabletop shops really are the lifeblood of the business, and Gaming Days’ vision, to craft moments that form connections between players and their local community hubs, is a fantastic way of strengthening those stores.
Free RPG Day is currently the premium Gaming Days event, and has taken place every year since 2019. Hosted in over 700 stores around the world, the event offers exclusive, and of course, free, access to RPG content. The freebies available are based on what a retailer and brand may offer, but from accessories and miniatures, to starter sets, books and unknown adventures, RPG players will definitely find something to love in their local, participating shop.
2025’s Free RPG Day promised to be one of the biggest yet, and not only were there community experiences lined up, which ensured that players were able to meet and interact with others in the hobby, but they also got the opportunity to play debuting games and bag a few never-before-seen exclusives as well.
Who Got Involved With Free RPG Day In 2025?
Gaming Days signed up a truly impressive roster of publishing partners, who were on-hand to provide some of those exclusives and free offerings. Some of the names involved are very familiar to fans of Tabletop Gaming Magazine, while others are up-and-coming studios who were able to take this chance to build their own reputation amongst players after previously performing well on Kickstarter or other online platforms.
Obojima, 9th Level Games, Chaosium Inc., Chip Theory Games, Critical Kit, Dispel, Don’t Panic Games, Edge Studio, Exalted Funeral, Foam Brain Games, Free League, Ghostfire Gaming, Goodman Games, The Marvel Multiverse RPG, Green Ronin Publishing, Hexted, Hitpoint Games, Kobold Press, Lake Battle Mats, Magpie Games, Mana Project Studio, Modiphius Entertainment, Need Games, Paizo, Red Raven, Renegade Game Studios, Sirius Dice, Son of Oak Game Studio, The Story Engine and Wiz Kids were all listed contributors to the event.
You could pick up new adventures from Ghostfire Games like Grim Hollow and Arora, to Kobold Press’ Tales of the Valiant’s quick-quest titled The Well of Shadows RPG, meaning there really were a lot of great free options on offer this time around. Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass from 1985 Games, The Marvel Multiverse RPG’s Thunderbolt’s campaign, and Root: Laurel’s Canopy from Magpie Games are just a couple of other examples!
Around 20 gaming stores were also involved with Free RPG Day across the UK, with the likes of Gates of Cerberus in Middlesbrough, Fan Boy Three in Manchester, Ancient Robot Games in Edinburgh, and plenty of Forbidden Planet Stores across the country, all getting involved alongside many others.
