The Kickstarter competitor opens in Beta.
Launching in October 2020, Awaken Realms brought news of Gamefound, an alternative to Kickstarter that would offer a new platform for crowdfunding. Gamefound had previously been a successful pledge manager for the steps after a successful Kickstarter campaign, but its movement into crowdfunding was part of an early goal to have everything you need in one place. That meant that additional pledges or addons could be collected at point of purchase, all details collected within a single site, letting stretch goals unlock automatically – and more.
The site opened with ISS Vanguard, and since then has had a handful of projects each month added to it, with the goal of building an understanding of what was needed, ironing out any issues on a smaller scale, and building a site that's as stable as possible – rather than opening to all and finding bigger issues that would impact many more creators. This meant that only those who applied and were successful were able to use it.
However, it has now confirmed that it's opening its doors to all. Projects will still need to be verified, and the site is still considered to be in Beta, but this will be the first tabletop gaming dedicated platform for crowdfunding.
"There are so many points on our list of “to do next,”" Marcin Świerkot, CEO of Gamefound said. "Within months, you should see some really cool new features and significant improvements. As with every adventure that is worthwhile - it will be hard and full of bumps, but I really hope that we will be able to create something that will lead to more amazing board games!"
