Endlessly quotable cult movie The Princess Bridge is being turned into a roleplaying game, publisher Toy Vault has announced.

The Princess Bride RPG will be released later this year, in line with the 1987 film celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Although details are scant, it has been confirmed that Steffan O'Sullivan will design the game, based on his Fudge open gaming system, which he originally released back in 1993. O’Sullivan previously authored the GURPS projects Swashbucklers and Bunnies & Burrows in the early nineties.

For those not in the know, Fudge is essentially a build-it-yourself toolkit for GMs that makes use of customized dice with plus, minus and blank faces that step up the intensity of an event with each result (for example, deciding whether an outcome is good, very good or great). Fudge was used as the basis for the similarly customizable Fate system that powers Diaspora and The Dresden Files.

“Fudge is a great, light RPG engine that provides just the right feel of light-hearted, fantastic adventure that embodies The Princess Bride universe,” Toy Vault said in its Facebook announcement of the game.

The Princess Bridge RPG will feature artwork of the film’s characters illustrated by Jon Pinto, including Fezzik, Inigo, Westley, and Buttercup.

That’s pretty much all the information we have for now. We guess all that remains to be said is: “My name is Inigo Montoya! You killed my father! Prepare to die!”
