Innocence Lost: 4Ground releases ruined gothic cityscapes

Fans of ruined gothic cityscapes – which I guess must be a sub-fandom – can look forward to seeing the profound profaned courtesy of 4Ground.  The Urbes Mortis ruins are a new set of destroyed church-like buildings designed for 28mm games like Warhammer 40,000. Okay, let’s not pull our punches here; it’s designed for use with Warhammer 40,000.  Ruined gothic structures are as much of a staple of the grimdark universe as skulls, and can regularly be seen in various stages of disrepair in Games Workshop artwork. The set pieces are composed of various ruined arches, buttresses and shield-wielding (dark) angels of death, interspersed with more sci-fi elements like extractor fans set into the walls. 

Though their website doesn’t state it, it looks like walls are made of MDF, whilst I’m guessing that the rubble will be resin or maybe even actual rubble like shattered slate. The materials for the windows I’m at a loss for – I’m guessing a semi see-through plastic? There’s no two ways about it; these kits are expensive, on par with official Games Workshop stuff, and looks like these bits of kits are aimed at the serious Warhammer 40,000 fanatic, rather than the casual fan. Prices range from £17 for a single wall to £272 for the ruined cityscape. 

4Ground do a bunch of scenery besides the Urbes Mortis, covering Fantasy, Historical, non-Warhammer 40,000 science fiction, Modern, Western and Post-apocalytic, as well as miscellanea like trees and flocking. They also do stuff in a variety of different sizes; 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 28mm and 32mm. MDF seems to be their big thing across all ranges and genres. Somewhat incongruously, they also do a line of full-size replica wooden swords and shields!
