Osprey Games has revealed a first-look at the sequel to the beloved 2023 wargame, General Orders, with Sengoku Jidai.

Osprey Games’ 2025 slate is already impressive and yet another title has been added to its ranks. The board game studio, which also has a publishing division, is known for such titles as The Silver Bayonet and Frostgrave, with Katami and Bolt Action: Armies of Germany: Third Edition coming soon.

And now, another popular franchise, General Orders, has returned with a sequel, inspired by the original 2023 hit based on World War II. The initial title was designed by star design duo David Thompson and Trevor Benjamin and is currently available to purchase for £25. The original concept was to spin play around the difficult decision-making of the worker-placement genre.

General Orders 2?

Now, Osprey Games has seen the potential of the 2-player title, which was previously nominated for multiple awards, and has commissioned a new iteration. Again focused on 2-players, designed for ages 14 and up, and estimated to last approximately 30-minutes, General Orders sees Thompson and Benjamin team-up again for an altered experience. The title sticks to the very basic premise of the original, but brings in new mechanics and narrative backdrops for a standalone affair.

Interestingly, there is one major change in the team. While the original game saw its artwork come from the talented Alex Green, it is Tanner Staheli who will be lending their illustrations to the piece this time around.

General Orders: Sengoku Jidai

General Orders: Sengoku Jidai is set in 16th Century Japan. Players are asked to wage war on an ever-changing battlefield, securing resources, capturing forts, and fighting for a constant advantage in a title that seems to pride itself on its tactical opportunities. With two maps available, the title is also introducing waterways, siege weaponry and ships, in a few new game mechanics that should add variety to play.

Upon ordering the title, players will receive 1 double-sided game board, 80+ wooden pieces, 50 playing cards, and dice and tokens, for a complete and robust setup. Players will likely be drawn in by the immersiveness of the game’s design as they were by the World War II alternative. The Sengoku period, of which the game is based upon, was known for its constant civil wars, as society shifted in the most unpredictable ways. This is a volatile battlefield to step on to, and one that players should be prepared to navigate.

General Orders Game Coming Soon

As of right now, the retail price of General Order: Sengoku Jidai is unclear, but Osprey Games is eyeing up a September 2025 release date. The title will go on sale in all good tabletop stores, or directly from the Osprey Games website.

Expect more to be announced from Osprey Games in the coming months, as the title builds towards its release. We are currently eagerly anticipating those early game previews, which should give more of a sense of how this sequel differs from its exciting predecessor.
