Some of Dungeons & Dragons’ earliest modules are being re-released as collector’s edition hardbacks

The storied past of seminal roleplaying icon Dungeons & Dragons is coming back to the tabletop in a big way recently, with the announcement of new special edition re-releases of early modules for the RPG the latest chance to dive pack into the game’s history.

Goodman Games has teamed up with D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast to revive some of the very first adventures released for the title in the form of collector’s edition hardback volumes.

The books will include digitally restored printings of the rules, made compatible with Dungeons & Dragons: Fifth Edition.

There will also be completely new content that expands the modules, plus commentary and historical details from Frank Mentzer and Mike Carr, who served as authors for the game during the 1970s and ‘80s at TSR, plus Luke Gygax, the son of late D&D co-creator Gary Gygax.

The first two modules to be re-released as part of Goodman’s Collector’s Edition series will be B1 In Search of the Unknown (written by Carr) and B2 The Keep on the Borderlands.

The physical volumes will be released in August at Gen Con, but there’s no details on price yet.

Wizards itself headed back into D&D’s past recently with Tales of the Yawning Portal, a 248-page compilation spanning some of the roleplaying legend’s finest modules from throughout its 40-plus-year history, updated for the fifth edition.
