Spongebob Fluxx Announced

Can't say we saw this one coming

Today brings news of one of our favourite sponges (though admittedly there’s not much competition), and one of our consistently enjoyable games merging into one, as Looney Labs have announced SpongeBob Fluxx.

It said of the new game: “You probably already know who lives in a pineapple under the sea, but now you can join the whole Bikini Bottom gang in an undersea version of Fluxx! You can steal Mr. Krab’s Money or Squidward’s Clarinet, give a Krabby Patty to Plankton – you could even drive off in the Invisible Boatmobile! So, if nautical nonsense be something you wish, you don’t have to use your imaaaagination, just play Fluxx like a fish!”

Fluxx itself, for the uninitiated, is a game about change, where the very rules you're playing will change as the game continues. Winning sees the goalposts changing regularly, and it’s a mixture of luck and impressive strategy to do so. As with the others, the SpongeBob Fluxx variation will be for 2-6 players, will play within 10-40 minutes, is for ages 8 and over, and costs $20, which we’re seeing at around £15 in UK pre-orders (which may change, of course).

Whilst it may seem an unusual combination, Fluxx is no stranger to variation of its core game, and these have been popular in their own right. For many, Fluxx is a standard gateway game into the world of the Tabletop, and it's not uncommon to see it resting on the shelves of any gamer. Aside from the core game, there are tens of variations: Jumanji Fluxx, Pirate Fluxx, Firefly Fluxx, Nature Fluxx, Cthulu Fluxx, Doctor Who Fluxx, Monty Python Fluxx, Star Trek Fluxx, Zombie Fluxx, Batman Fluxx… and that’s barely scratching the surface.

All in all then, it’s reasonable to expect this to be a fun, family-friendly version, which you can see over on their site, or pre-order from your friendly local game store.
