December magazine features an interview with the designer of Scythe, RPG publisher Cubicle 7, the making of Codenames, a round-up of the best games from Essen 2016 and the latest and greatest reviews

It’s official: Christmas has come early, as you can now pre-order your copy of Tabletop Gaming’s fantastic December issue or pick up a subscription to the magazine as an early present.

Tabletop Gaming issue 7 is an absolute cracker (it’s never too early for Christmas puns), with the usual mix of exclusive interviews, features and reviews you’ve come to expect from the UK’s leading board games magazine.

As you might have guessed from the gorgeous cover, this issue includes a bumper interview with Jamey Stegmaier, designer of critically-acclaimed alt-history strategy game Scythe – which we reckon might just be the Game of the Year. Have a read and see what you reckon.

We also have a huge 16-page round-up of this year’s Essen Spiel direct from Germany, where we highlight some of the biggest releases and hidden secrets from the world’s most popular tabletop show. It’s like being at the show, without the need to pay for flights or consume massive quantities of sausage.

For all your RPG fans out there, we have an exclusive chat with the CEO of British publisher Cubicle 7 – responsible for Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings and Cthulhu RPGs, to name just a few – as the company turns 10 years old. We also round up the roleplaying releases you should put on your Christmas list in our regular Role Call.

Content continues after advertisements

There’s also an in-depth look at the making of last year’s exceptional party game and Spiel des Jahres winner Codenames – and elsewhere we continue our look at winners past by venturing into 1982’s Enchanted Forest.

Of course, it just wouldn’t be Tabletop Gaming without some reviews of the latest big releases, and issue 7 is no exception: you’ll hear our opinion on Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu, Ticket to Ride: Rails & Sails, Hit Z Road, Betrayal at House on the Hill: Widow’s Walk, Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, The Dragon & Flagon, Escape from Colditz’s 75th Anniversary Edition, The Walking Dead: All Out War, Dungeons & Dragons: Tyrants of the Underdark, Beasts of Balance – and more!

Miniatures lovers won’t be left longing, either, thanks to a Malifaux battle report and a detailed guide to painting Bushido’s Jung Pirates faction, plus a review of Infinity's Operation: Red Veil set.

This is just the start – there’s loads for you to dig into, from news and reports from the latest UK tabletop events to reviews of accessories, books and even films. For a sneak peek, take a look at our Facebook page.

Tabletop Gaming issue 7 will be out on December 1st, and you can pre-order your copy now. And of course, there's also a digital edition of the magazine for portable reading on the move.

We also have some very exciting news: starting with December’s issue, we will be kicking it up a gear to become a bi-monthly magazine – meaning lots more exclusive features and reviews arriving through your postbox every two months. You can subscribe now – or maybe treat the board gamer in your life to a subscription for Christmas!
