There’ll be free welcome decks, an Amonkhet promo card and the chance to learn or refresh your skills
Magic: The Gathering has been around for yonks and continues to be one of the most popular tabletop games ever released, but there’s still a chance you might not have ever actually played Richard Garfield’s iconic card-battler – or fallen off the train over the last two-plus decades.
If that’s the case, this weekend might be a good opportunity to dive back into the card game of duelling planeswalkers, as publisher Wizards of the Coast has announced the inaugural Magic Open House event will take place this Saturday, April 15th.
Taking place ahead of the release of the Amonkhet set (the 74th such expansion for the game, if it wasn’t clear that Magic has been around for a long, long time), the Open House is essentially an opportunity to either learn how to play Magic for the first time or brush up on your skills if it’s been a year or two. Or twenty.
1,700 gaming stores around Europe – including the UK, obviously – will be set up for casual matches on the day. There will also be 50,000 free welcome decks up for grabs, plus the chance to nab a full-art promo land card for Amonkhet two weeks ahead of the set’s launch.
You can see if your local FLGS is taking part using Wizards’ online locator – maybe we’ll see you there!
