Melee at Murdershroom Marsh introduces three new types of cards to comical magic duel
Like magic, the third entry in the Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards series will appear later this month.
The comical card game of duelling sorcerers trying to destroy each other with over-the-top incantations appeared in 2012 with Duel at Mt. Skullzfyre and was followed up in 2015 by Rumble at Castle Tentakill after finding fame through Wil Wheaton’s TableTop series.
Melee at Murdershroom Marsh introduces three new keywords to each player’s magical arsenal, including the extra effects of cantrips activated by discarding cards, bad trips that resolve twice with glyph-heavy spells and everlasting treasures that persist between player deaths.
The upcoming game’s pool of delivery cards has upped the number of summonable creatures that stick around after a spell is cast, which now make up around half the deck. The remaining half consists of dual-glyph deliveries, which allow players to roll two or more dice, leading to more damage and bonuses.
In another change to the gameplay, the quick match mode introduced in Castle Tentakill has been made the core way of playing, bringing matches down to about half an hour from their previous 45-minute-ish mark.
Taking over responsibility for the latest game’s signature humorous art style is RS Bixby, replacing series regular Nick Edwards, who was said to be too busy working at Cartoon Network to contribute to the third instalment.
Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Melee at Murdershroom Marsh is due out in the US on November 29th and will cost $30 (£23), so it should find its way over to the UK not long after.
