Peter Perfect news
CMON is going from the insanity of Lovecraftian cosmic horror to a very different kind of bonkers, with a board game based on ‘60s cartoon Wacky Races.
The Hanna-Barbera classic – best-known, of course, for starring Dick Dastardly and his snivelling hound Muttley – is being turned into a card-driven racing game featuring miniatures of the various competitors, such as the Slag Brothers, the Gruesome Twosome, Penelope Pitstop and Peter Perfect.
Dastardly and Muttley are themselves controlled by the game, laying traps in the way of the other racers, who move around each track’s terrain tiles by laying down cards.
Each car – from the Turbo Terrific to the Bouldermobile – has unique abilities, and races can be played as standalone 10- to 15-minute bursts or linked in a championship, with different rules and attributes applying to each race.
Wacky Races’ gameplay has been designed by Kingsburg co-creator Andrea Chiarvesio and first-time designer Fabio Tola, and is described as skewing towards the lighter and simpler side of things, aiming at families.
It sounds like Wacky Races: The Board Game will also be taking a shortcut around Kickstarter, with a release planned for early 2019. A regular edition will be available alongside a deluxe set with pre-painted miniatures.
Now all we need is a Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines sequel...
