How’s this for a blast from the past: Dungeons & Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast is re-releasing retro modules for the earlier editions of the seminal RPG as physical books.

TSR was the original publisher of D&D, and released many add-on ‘modules’ for the game’s first two editions from 1978 onwards.

When TSR was purchased by Wizards in the mid-1990s and D&D’s third edition was launched in 2000, modules became known instead as ‘adventures’ and many of the original settings became hard-to-find collector’s items or available in digital form only.

As part of the revival, Wizards will reprint classic D&D books every week via DriveThruRPG, which has been publishing PDF versions of D&D titles since 2012. Prices appear to be around the $20 mark.

Modules that originally came as bundled box sets will be offered with additional resources, such as dungeon masters’ sourcebooks, players’ books, adventure books and maps.

Some of the first titles to emerge as part of the launch include AC1 The Shady Dragon Inn (Basic), X2 Castle Amber (Basic), the Hollow World Campaign Setting (Basic), I10: Ravenloft II: The House on Gryphon Hill (1E), L1 The Secret of Bone Hill (1E), Dragonlance Adventures (1E), WG5 Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure (1E), SJS1 Goblin's Return (2E) and Uncaged: Faces of Sigil (2E).

The coded modules were released from 1978 to 1994, with the code system dropped in 1993 and named titles released until TSR’s demise in 2000. You check can out a full list of TSR’s D&D modules on Wikipedia.
